My client Cedar Creek Settlement is gearing up for spring tourism season. I’ve just posted our April/May newsletter online at www.cedarcreeksettlement.com This beautiful old mill is 151 years old and now houses 25 shops, two restaurants and award-winning Cedar Creek Winery. Just 20 minutes north of Milwaukee the entire downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Named “The Best Place to go Shopping” and “Best Architecture” in the Wisconsin Department of Tourism reader’s survey.
I have worked with Chris on book tour twice, the first for Little Bee. He is terrific with an audience, talented to the max and just fun to be with. He’s coming to Milwaukee in early May for his new novel “Everyone Brave Is Forgiven”.
Sometimes when looking for a good read you just have to shop your own bookshelves. I needed to re-read the novella collection “The Woman Lit By Fireflies” by recently departed luminary Jim Harrison. Still stands up after 16 years.
A new favorite writer, Malcolm Brooks (Painted Horses) posted that Jim Harrison has died. I worked with him on book tour and he was not only a literary giant but also a very charming man and great company.
Worked with him on two book tours and found him sweet, kind and a thoughtful intellectual. But, not too high-falutin’ that he wouldn’t dish on Hollywood beauties who ruined their looks by too much plastic surgery.
This fantastic ocean/surfer view in Carlsbad, CA is the one I would love to wake to every morning. Birds singing, hot tub bubbling, coffee percolating, sun and happiness. Left this magical place just a week ago. Meanwhile, a few days before Easter it is snowing in Wisconsin.
I’ll be working with this young, award-winning author and screenwriter on April 6. Visiting a school and then an evening library event in Milwaukee.
A favorite author and someone I’ve adored and worked with six times on book tour, Dennis Lehane, wrote this in my Philosophy in a Nutshell journal. Today it speaks truth. My son Ben was in Brussels today during the terrorist attack but was able to drive to Amsterdam before the roads/rails were closed. God willing he has a flight home to D.C. tomorrow.
Working with Rita Mae on several book tours we shared our love of thoroughbreds. She has been master of the hounds at the Oak Ridge Hunt Club in Afton, Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains for decades. She invited us to be her guests at the Opening Hunt and Brunch. What a thrilling day watching the horses, hounds and riders racing after the bugle cry. A beautiful autumn day that will be treasured.
Over the years we have had three custom silks created. Double G Stable colors were yellow and green, Great Lake Stable was red and green and our newest silks, designed by talented designer Sarrah Gielow are blue, aqua and yellow with a white wave design denoting Lake Michigan. You can see those silks a mile away while the horses are flying around the track!
