An intimate girlfriend’s dinner tonight with my good friend State Senator Alberta Darling. Just a little wine, a little food and lots of laughter. She’s smart, gracious, funny and tough as nails. Love this one!
Acclaimed and award-winning photographer Sally Mann will be in Milwaukee on Saturday, April 30. I will be working with her on this book tour for HOLD STILL featuring her gorgeous work. A memoir of family history with photos. It’s a ticketed event at Boswell Books at 7 pm. A feature film about her work “What Remains” debuted to critical acclaim in 2006.
Felicia Day is a rock star! Did not know that until 500 fans showed up Monday night for her book signing at Boswell Books. The line went out the door and down the block. She is funny, sweet, kind, appreciative and patient. She signed books and took pictures with fans until 11:00 p.m. Because she has a stalker (not from Wisconsin), two MKE police officers and three private security guards were assigned to her that night. Normally you only think of movie stars beset by that problem. Nevertheless, I loved working with her and all went perfectly.
It has been a couple of agonizing years going through various interim editors. Perhaps Milwaukee Magazine has finally chosen “The One”. I will meet Carol Nicksin at the reception Thursday night. Always a fun group of people to hang with.
Spent a long weekend last week in KC. A revelation! A lively city with many outdoor public spaces with live entertainment, a huge covered Public Market, Power & Light District, leafy trees, fountains, flowers and an amazing art museum. The restaurant scene is amazing. If anyone suggests spending time there, say yes!
I will be with Felicia Day on April 25 at 7 pm talking about her new book “You’re Never Weird On The Internet (almost)”. More than 300 people have reserved their spot at Boswell Books. I predict the signing will go until midnight! Can’t wait to meet this fascinating author.
Considering the current political climate, I think P.J. was on to something with his book Eat the Rich. He was funny, smart and ironic (also tall). His books on economics are aimed at non-experts like me with plain talk dashed with humor.
I was with lovely young author Jessica Knoll at Boswell Books last night where she was interviewed by book critic/writer/professor Carole Barrowman. Today she had a TV interview on The Morning Blend before I took her to the airport. This first time author has been nominated for a prestigious Edgar Award. She is also writing the screenplay for the movie by Reese Witherspoon’s production team. Her book: “The Luckiest Girl Alive” is an un-putdown-able thriller.
I’m beginning to do planning and publicity for Cedarburg’s annual Strawberry Festival, June 25 & 26. This annual festival brings more than 100,000 visitors to our beautiful Historic District.
Our home track opens for the season on May 6. Our trainer Mike Stidham wants to run our horse Dr. Clark on opening day after a 6 month layoff. Can’t wait!
