She is so right. A good day when everything is right in your world. A lovely spiritual woman, an author, a professor, an Indian immigrant. Gratitude for my daily blessings.
This is a girl after my own heart. TV/print reporter, author, international speaker, police procedural expert, entrepreneur. At lunch today we connected on so many levels. She may have written the book on noted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer but she is so much more than that. Guiding police departments and district attorney’s on how to respond to crisis management. Glad to call her a friend. Happy she is moving toward an even greater presence in law enforcement.
The coolest kids book section ever! Yesterday worked with Mary Kubica again, this time in Madison at Mystery To Me Bookshop. Lovely owner Joanne and bookseller Jane (whom I have know forever). The Monroe neighborhood is fabulous with charming old houses on leafy streets juxtaposed with brand new condos plus plenty of cool restaurants, coffee houses and a brand new Trader Joe’s. Can’t wait to go back with another terrific thriller/mystery author.
Tonight was Ladies Night Out in Historic Cedarburg. My buddy Brian Kramp from the live FOX6 program Studio A came to my clients establishment to do four live segments at The Shops of Cedar Creek Settlement (23 shops, Cedar Creek Winery and 3 restaurants). The merchants planned a great party for the attendees. We had such fun constructing the segments, including one hilarious segment with the “Cedarburg Studs” a group of good looking Cedarburg guys who are the guides for the evening. Brian had us on alert that his first child was due yesterday so he might not make it…but, no baby yet. Welcome to Baby Charlie whenever he deigns to appear.
Thursday evening is Ladies Night Out in Historic Cedarburg. My friend and reporter Brian Kramp, host of Studio A on FOX6, will do four live on-air segments at The Shops of Cedar Creek Settlement (my clients). We have live music, free tote bags, wine tasting, cheese sampling, giveaways, $4 martinis, great shopping and drawings for gift baskets. I will be on the 4:15 segment then I have the very studly Cedarburg Studs in their red bowties to give a little intro to the event, then a bit of wine tasting at Cedar Creek Winery. With 400 ladies in town should be a party!
How lucky that I get to work with talented novelist Mary Kubica on her newest novel “Don’t You Cry”. Worked with her on her previous tour for “The Good Girl”. Not only do I have her on Tuesday in Milwaukee but she will also be with me in Madison on Friday. Can’t put her book down.
Sometimes I am the luckiest person alive. Tuesday, May 10 I get to work with Simon Sebag Montefiore on book tour. The book is big, dense and amazing. I worked with his gorgeous wife, novelist Santa Montefiore on an earlier book tour.
Our beautiful horse, Dr. Clark (#3) was the favorite to win in the first race on Opening Day at Arlington Park Racecourse. He came in 2nd. There is always next time! Afterwards we spent the weekend in Chicago at the Monaco Hotel, a fabulous dinner with friends at Chicago Cut on the terrace overlooking the Chicago River. It’s all luck of the draw but much to be grateful for.
Once again I get to work with delightful, talented, insightful, writerly-writer Chris Cleave on book tour Thursday with his newest novel EVERYONE BRAVE IS FORGIVEN. We do have such fun together on book tour! He’s at Boswell Books, of course, being interviewed by proprietor extraordinaire Daniel Goldin. God, I love the Brits!
I was invited to give my talk “Bookbabe Tells (almost) All” tonight at the Port Washington, Wisconsin Yacht Club. Looking forward to meeting with their book club.
