One of my favorite events of the year is a classic, only-in-Wisconsin event. Costumed Bed Races on Ice. Competitors march down Washington Avenue during the Winter Festival Parade and end up at frozen Cedar Creek where they compete. Five people to a bed – four pushers and one sitter. Usually on skates but not required. Best Costume gets a cash prize and 1st, 2nd, 3rd place race finishers get a trophy. Thousands of festival attendees line the bank of the creek cheering on their favorite team. This is what makes winter a bit more bearable! February 18 & 19 this year.
A fun night in D.C. on January 20. Invited to Governor Snyder’s reception at the Willard Hotel and later the Michigan Inaugural Ball at the American History Museum. A wonderful night of good food, good music, dancing and meeting some lovely Michiganders.
